The Musique Romatica Quartet was formed in 1990 by leader and manager Francois Gersteling.
It consists of Piano/Accordion, Violin, Cello and Flute and provides professional classical and light romantic music for any function or audience. The quartet also performs classical interpretations of popular music by adding colour and texture through their unique combination of instruments.
The quartet is often used in different forms, depending on the venue or budget available. Both the Trio (no flute) and Duo (Piano and Voilin) forms are equally entertaining.
Francois Gersteling - Violinist
Playing the violin is my passion
Francois studied with Zanta Hofmeyr and Piet Koorhof at the Potchefstroom Conservatory of Music.
He has performed in various Symphony Orchestras and Operetta’s.
Francois is presently lecturing voilin at Crawford College Ruimsig and is a loyal member of the Rand Symphony Orchestra for 34 years.

Ivan Livingston - Piano/Accordion
Playing the piano is my passion
Ivan became interested in playing the piano at 12 and was exposed to music throughout the church.
He learnt to play various instruments, including the guitar, organ, concertina, harmonica and accordion.
Ivan also participated in ensemble and choir singing.
Ivan started playing as a session musician and gigs for various events, functions, restaurants and hotels, while he still continues with Musique Romantica.
Ivan’s style predominantly centres on jazz subgenres, and his approach features a great deal of improvisation.
Lorette Theron
Playing the Flute is my passion
Lorette is a seasoned flutist who began her journey at the age of 12. Her dedication to the flute continued through high school and flourished under the mentorship of Eva Tamassy at university.
With a rich background as a session musician for recoding’s artists and performances in esteemed orchestras and ensembles like the Phat Brass Big Band, Lorette brings unparalleled expertise and passion to her music.
Currently she graces the stage as a member of the Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra, captivating audiences with her exquisite talent and artistry.
Kevin Gersteling
Playing the Cello is my passion
Kevin is the son of Francois, and started playing the Cello for Music Romantica at the age of 19. He graduated with his Masters Degree in classical guitar performance in 2021, and is currently working on his Doctorate, which centres on the environmental psychology and improving children’s music education.
Kevin currently works as a music lecturer at the University of Pretoria and teaches Cello and Guitar at St Mary’s DSG, and is also a member of the South African Guitar Ensemble (SAGE).
Outside of his music career Kevin is a highly competitive Ballroom and Latin dancer and lovers to exercise frequently.
